If Ever An Angel Cried Poem by Lois doyle

If Ever An Angel Cried

The rain pours on the tinder roof,
Soft patters create a beat that rings throughout her body.
As she lays in her drenched colored bed
She whispers softly,
'Lord, please don't let me awake.'
She closes her eyes
And drowns out the noises of her parents on the other side.
She dreams of dying,
And a smile reaks her face.

The rain still pours over the world when she opens her eyes.
The noices of the house are still and silent.
She walks out the door and than another,
Looks to the sky and screams.
Waking every morning is her worst fear,
And she comes to face it everyday.
If ever an angel cried,
Now would be that time.

She hides her pain within a small place,
Filling it with scars and tears and then some more scars.
What ever happened to childhood?
Her parents took it from her.
A drunk for two fathers,
And an abuser for a mother.
A motel room laid out as a home.

She breaks the rearview miriors everyday,
Hoping she won't ever have to look back.
But with each step she takes forward,
She takes four backwards and steps on that glass.
And her steps just keep geting bigger.
