If I Could Edit My Life - Poem by Mary Bastian

if I could edit my life, I would
following production add a filter-
of gold captured shots of reality
dubbed sounds of hearts dancing
music composed from touch of skin
lit by the bewitching hour of dusk
a key-grip fetches a costume of bubbles
fairy tale animations of endless bridges
and waterfalls of happy endings
conventions flushed down the critic
time-lapsed visions of monotony
with a montage of first kiss moments
slow-motion sequences of lemonade
a match-cut of deaths remembered
themes fill with Benedictine chapels
a screenplay written without regret
sprinkled between the lines of a genre
shot on location without final cuts
credits roll against tears of stale popcorn
and a viewer lost in a moment of time
