If I Die Before I Wake Poem by Kelly Boutin

If I Die Before I Wake

If I die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
And for my life, I'd wish to stay if you would love me to this day

Hold me safely through this night
I fear I might end it this time
Oh, my life is breaking to a halt
My heart is breaking down my faults
I try but trying brings me down

And for my love I'd wish to give
What all of time would take to love

If I don't die before I wake
Give me a change to change my fate
Tell me how to fall asleep
When each night in pain I lie awake
Oh, let me die and let me sleep
Or let me live for heaven's sake

Now I lay me down to wake
Every hour of the night
Don't let me die before I wake
Before I have a chance at life

Oh wake me up when all is better
Or wake me up not at all
Cause time tolls all the bells
But mine is broke and ready to fall
