If I Said Poem by Francis Duggan

If I Said

If I said I.am a poet this would be a lie
But a rhymer I will be until the day I will die
For many years I have been a rhyming buff
And I have written reams and reams of rhyming stuff
The rhymes come to me in notebook I pen them down
But not in any hope of riches and renown
Though I used to daydream that I would be a poet
A writer well worthy of literary note
Daydreams for so few ever do come true
Though what we receive from life sometimes less than our due
I wrote my first rhymes in my physical prime
And this is going back many decades in time
I am one who loves rhyming and I always will
Be rhyming until the heart that beats in me is forever still.
