If I were in the Heaven, I would be...
...in the circle of angels there...
...in which the Iblīs would bemoan...
...the honoured state of my soul;
But, other angels would comfort...
...and congratulate me for it;
And some greater angel there...
...would come forward to correct...
...whatever was wrong and false in me.
Allah knows what angels do not know;
It is Allah who has blown soul into me;
My soul feels ecstatic in the company of...
...the dignitaries of Gnostics:
The friends of Allah, circumventing His throne;
A moment spent in the company of...
...an enlightened one is better than...
...a hundred years of sincere worship alone.
My ability to curb the rebellion of my evil nafs...
...is only because of the strength that I receive...
...from the incessant zikr of my Lord...
...the Most Mighty! The Most Powerful!
In the sense that my soul, by the shield of my Lord...
...cannot be harmed or tarnished by my foes...
...though it remains under the shadows of evil;
My thanks be to him who protects me...
...from all infection that could cause...
...severe illness to my soul;
What can one do about one's nature?
I look at every living thing and find...
...that it's doing what its nature asks it to do;
Angels do the same job from eternity!
Some men are like abiding angels!
Some men are like the Iblis, the rebel!
Some men are like herbivores animals!
Some men are like carnivores animals!
Some men are like omnivores animals!
How can we think of the possibility...
...of changing one's nature!
A paradox! I cannot solve!
