If I Will Return To Kallista Poem by Francis Duggan

If I Will Return To Kallista

If i will return to Kallista it will have to be in the Spring
When crimson rosella is piping and grey shrike thrush whistle and sing
And the sun through the spaces between the mountain ash finds it's way down to the tree fern trees
And even on cool days of September and October there is a warmth in the breeze

That blow through the woods of Kallista when the angled onions are in bloom
And the wattles scent of the strong scent of pollen and yellow flowers are on the broom
I've been to many scenic places and beautiful landscapes I've known
but Kallista in the Dandenong Ranges with the best I've seen can hold it's own.

Kallista a tourist attraction for it's beauty is known World wide
And the people of Sherbrooke and the Yarra Ranges in their beautiful landscape take pride
The laughter of the kookaburra echo in the still morning air
And the lyrebird who imitates the song of others is a mimic beyond compare.

The whistle of the lovely king parrot and the harsh call of the white cockatoo
And the currawong's song is familiar and no mistaking the voice of the weerloo
They live in the wood at Kallista the home of the giant mountain ash trees
And I'd like to return to Kallista when the warmth of Spring is in the breeze.
