If Only I Had Worried Poem by Randy McClave

If Only I Had Worried

They told me not to worry about it
So, I said okay then I won't,
So, now when my friends fight against injustice
I just sit at home, and I don't.
When tax breaks where given to the wealthy
And then when our stock market did fall,
I just sat at home and ignored them both
I didn't even make a single phone call.
They called our social security an entitlement
Then more lies by the politicians I then heard,
But, I kept my mouth shut and I didn't worry
Not, once did I say a rebellious word.
They then locked up hundreds of innocent children
To their parents and the weary they flexed their might,
They then proudly became racists and bigots
And what did I do, I just kept quiet.
They said that our country was deep in debt
So, they were going to take all our programs away,
But, the wealthy and the politicians can keep what they have
Once again, not one word did I say.
I was told again not to worry about it
And that I should not fret or have a single care,
But, my country was changing, and all for the worse
And all that I had left now, was a prayer.
My country became a non-caring corporation
Still for my rights and beliefs I never hurried,
I now sit alone and I have nothing left at all
Now I wished I had screamed and fought, if only I had worried.
