If You Forget Me
Inspired by Pablo Neruda's poem If You Forget Me
If you forget me I will not forget
the times we spent in each other’s arms,
when I believed that you would never let
me think of any other woman’s charms,
but though those times will always be to me
more precious than the rubies and the pearls
which I declared meant less to me than thee,
more lovely than King Solomon’s best girls,
I will move on, and try to find in others
the love that once I thought I’d only find
in you, because though men can’t change their mothers,
love teaches them to put the past behind.
