Ike Johnny Poem by Marilyn Lott

Ike Johnny

Rating: 5.0

I had a wonderful visit some years ago
At a place called Medicine Park Creek
Where I met Ike Johnny, a Kiowa Indian
We found a special place to meet

The view outside the restaurant
Was beautiful, serene and sweet
As we visited we observed the
Foot Bridge over Medicine Park Creek

He was quite a man, this Ike Johnny was
Ate well he said, throughout his many years
A strong handsome man for 98 years old
Of course, he’d had his share of sorrow and tears

But he’d lived a good life and was raised well
He fished the river and ate wild game
His father-in-law was a famous Kiowa leader
Hunting Horse was this wise man’s name

I’ve learned since then to take advantage
To gather knowledge I wouldn’t otherwise know
When I get a chance to meet folks like Ike Johnny
Because he was really quite an amazing fellow!
