I'm In Pursuit Of My Very Own Self Poem by Mohammad Younus

I'm In Pursuit Of My Very Own Self

I'm in pursuit of my very own self.
If I do not envision my true self,
I may not keep alive
the consciousness of my essence.
Only in knowing my own self
will my spirit be free
from the snare of illusion.

So I become an owl in the night,
wings spread wide, fierce,
taking celestial flight,
my heart pounding, yet steady
in the light winds that guide me.

With a paintbrush in hand,
I'm ready to capture what I see—
in the sky, only me... only I.
Stars glowing, the moon smiling,
I glide through the air, dazzled,
seeing myself in moonlight,
in each star of the galaxies,
calling me forward
into the light of a new dawn.

Out of this magnificent starlight,
I journey onward,
into my next poem—
a story of my life.
