In Garden Island Poem by Francis Duggan

In Garden Island

In Garden Island 'tis a beautiful day
The sky seems so blue with just a few clouds of gray
The sun shining bright in the park by the sea
And the magpie lark calls out his familiar pee wee,
The silver gulls calling in flocks as they fly
And perched on a rock the cormorant hangs out his wet wings to dry,
The mangroves a feature of this beautiful place
Where the developer's is the most unwelcome face
In Garden Island great beauty to be seen
The park by the mangroves always looks so green,
No factory chimney polluting the air
Such Earthly's Utopia's one might say are rare
And with rod and line on the jetty in the warm sunlight
The fishermen patiently wait for the big one to bite.
