In June In Duhallow Poem by Francis Duggan

In June In Duhallow

To my memory the sweet scent of grass mowed for silage or hay
In the warm breeze come wafting from meadows far away
And the chirping of young birds in the groves i do hear
In June in Duhallow a nice time of year
Of the what used to be the old memories remain
In the lush green fields wildflowers blooming after rain
And a voice from once heard it's owner you never again can get wrong
Of the parasitic migratory cuckoo with the distinctive song
For to feed their young in mud nest in house eaves nearby
The dark barn swallows chasing flying insects in the sunny sky
And on lush grass the contented cattle chewing their cuds do lay
In June in Duhallow from here far away.
