In Line! Poem by Scott Mason

In Line!

Standing in line the soldiers stood,
Ready to fire their arms and go into war
The choice was not theirs to go into battle.
Their screaming and chanting urged them on.
The thoughts of their families flooded their minds.
They didn’t want war but had to fight for what was right,
The freedom of people throughout the world
The smell of gun powder filled the air,
The smoke stung theirs eyes
Was the smoke clouding their judgement?
The taste of blood tainted their tongues.
Men and women of every colour,
Side by side united,
Standing in line the soldiers stood!
