In the corner sculpted the shrine
Weeps in the icy cold tear less
By the lamp hanging swings.
Creaks the night lamp; occasional
Flickers in the corner light
As hiding from the icy wind.
A distant bell to the sadness
Adds ringing from a distant church
In the old city beauty and fear merge.
It's midnight striking
It'd old Valletta!
