In The Well Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

In The Well

Too hot it was one summer day; So I opened up my well
The water was so very cold, it had a clean fresh smell
Last I can remember I leaped in by myself
The lid closed tight above me, leaving no way to get out

Drowning in the water- Way too young to die
No one here to help me- No one heard my cries
Many summers have long passed, with my body still inside
Bobbing like a floating cork, in water, cold as ice

People from the county still use my water well
The water sweet as ever with an unlikely summer smell
Jesus may have made water taste like a fine wine
In here my body makes it taste just like no other kind

Have a drink of heaven; You still have a long, long ride
I taste a lot like water with a hint of farmer Mike
Though my name was soon forgotten; I will be here for some time
No one ever, lifts the lid to take a look inside
