Indigenous Australians Poem by Francis Duggan

Indigenous Australians

Many of Australia's first people live in dire poverty
They are not receiving a fair go is how it seems to be
On saying that indigenous Australian millionaires are in the few
Is not saying anything that is in any way new
Indigenous Australians are among the poorest of the poor in the Australia of today
And this seems a sad thing for to have to say
The Land that was taken from them has created many a multi millionaire and billionaire
: Life for some truly is not always fair
From the Land of their ancestors those who dispossessed them did gain
But as Australia's first people they will always remain
They will always be the descendants of the people of the Dreamtime
The legends of story and inspiration of rhyme
Australia's first people have never received a fair go
On saying this i am only saying what happens to be so.
