Inside Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Inside

Time can't erase
the essential part of my existence
wasn't quite aware
Always thinking of a way out
Overwhelmed with fear
Living a life with no sense of freedom
Until finding a way
that led down the road to emancipation

Early on, I'd Embrace
I found solace in that place
where I could exercize
what I felt from within
to reveal what's been hidden

Irrevocably
dropped the false pretense
and it's easy
and it's easy
to finally breathe
in this skin
in this skin
god only knew
that I sneered at the image
while staring into the mirror
the question became clearer
because you see I
I could no longer live in the shadows
of your production
All by myself
I would decide
Because I certainly believed
in the image that's been conceived
you'll get to meet who I been hiding on the inside
by then you'll see
who I was before really have ultimately died
