Inside/Outside Poem by Ojone Amedu

Inside/Outside

Don't you just hate the buildup of emotions?
And you try to cover it up with A class Broadway shows
Outside you're the happiest, inside you're fighting foes.
Desperately wanting of the demon to be let out
Though it rages, claws and fights, feelings need to be aired out
Yet as your mind hesitates, your mouth becomes a drought.
Filling up with Sahara sand that leaves your mind dry
So every answer that comes from your lips is a lie
It's the truth, I promise. Cross my heart and hope to die.
I am, you know. Dying. We all are.
For some the end isn't so far
For the rest, we're not quite up to par.
In the end, the emotions overflow like a tsunami
Fighting the fire within, you are your worst enemy
The harrowing part is, this is your best company.
Outside you're happiest, inside you're fighting foes
And you try to protect it with A class Broadway shows
Don't you just love the buildup of emotions?
