Iraq War Syllogism - 9 Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Iraq War Syllogism - 9

9

Kareem will smile for the journalists
Per request from his hospital bed
But the requested smile doesn't jibe with the rest of the scene

Kareem will smile with no arms or legs
And burns over 60 percent of his body

Kareem will smile without parents
They perished in the same blast
As did many of his extended family

The nervous military press secretary said a missile fell short of its target
And onto Kareem's house
These mistakes are regrettable but understandable during war

Kareem will receive new prosthesis courtesy of the Emir of Kuwait
And citizenship to a Western country

Kareem must keep smiling
In order to settle any doubts of the occupier
You are not allowed to hold this against us
