Irony Poem by Alyssa Lynn

Irony

Isn’t it ironic how the ones we love hurt us, the ones we trust break us? How are we supposed to carry on living each day to the fullest when the ones who “promised” they would never harm us, simply rip our hearts out in a matter of seconds? The world around me makes me question humanity; everything that goes wrong makes me fear a little more. It makes me feel a little darker, want to just close the door, lock it, and just sleep. I don’t understand I look around and find boys telling girls they love them one day, then the next cheating. I swear this makes no sense. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone but everyone treats it like its no big deal. What on earth is this world coming to? What does it mean when instead of telling the truth we lie? What does it mean when a father leaves his family as soon as his wife decides she wants a divorce, what does that say about the man? What does it mean when we decide to get wasted, and all drugged up just so we can forget our problems for five measly minutes? It’s all so ironic, we want what we can’t have, and then when we have it it’s not as exciting. I feel like everything we once knew is changing, that there are no guarantees for love, or happiness. I believe it’s our job to decide whether we’re going to be happy. I believe no one is safe from getting their heart broken. In the world we live in, how are we supposed to survive and live it to the fullest when everywhere I look it all crumbles a little more?

happiness is a choice, the strength within that we draw upon. It doesn't mean we can't feel other feelings tho. Great poem Black Bird!
