Is It A Child's Dream? Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Is It A Child's Dream?

When I was a young girl.
I entered a writing contest.
The theme I chose was
‘Save the World’… that was best.

It was a revolutionary theory.
A shared language can make us wise.
Hatred would clear from our glare.
We would shake hands and compromise.

It was a child’s dream…
Very simple upon examination;
Lay down the guns…
Have a little conversation.

Nice weather we are having...
Have you found a sweetheart?
So, how is your mother feeling?
Let’s talk about poetry and art.

After talking for a short time
There would be a sense of calm.
Each would put down their weapons…
And abandon thoughts of a bomb.

It was a very naïve thought.
It was ranked number two.
Did my efforts have some value?
Could my visions ever come true?

Now as I think about it…
The concept wasn’t so lame.
With all our differences
We are all very much the same.

We have much more in common
Than thorns upon which we disagree.
We all make promises and have hopes…
To love and have a life that is trouble-free.
