Is It Worth Fighting For? Poem by Melissa Coventry

Is It Worth Fighting For?

Rating: 5.0

Fighting for a reason,
Fighting for a cause,
To make our lives meaningful,
With purpose and source.
To be worth more,
Then commercial television or record labels,
And those bright colourful advertisements,
Lead us blind,
Into aimless consumer belief.

Digging in the dirt,
Digging for talent,
Digging for some sustainable resource,
The young of the world are suffering,
The old just have been forgotten.
And the leaders of the world,
What other concerns do they have that make justification?

Poverty and war around the globe,
Are we now fighting against Mother Nature’s roar as well?
Too lazy to act,
Too much apathy to make trouble,
To come together and make a stand.
The western world just becomes obese with obsession,
To the meaningless,
Mindless obsessions.

Easier to pity,
To difficult to act,
Anger fills the young dreamers,
The beginners of actions,
And the tried that tried and tried.
All too few to make a dent,
In ones that populate the world.

Seeing through a child’s eyes,
It would be pure but tainted,
By the malevolence we fill the world,
Nothing is sacred?
Just argue your point.
But agree no body wants to give.

Divides in colour,
Divides in race,
In religion and country borders,
Is anything or everything,
Worth fighting for,
In this day an age that’s creditable?

You and me, co-running the country some day.2025 watch OUT :) I know how it feels, that the people with power dont care and so few others do too, and even us few who do feel so powerless, but its no reason to stop fighting altogether. Great work Melli.
