...Is To Walk In My Mind Poem by Blessings Mutukwa

...Is To Walk In My Mind

Shadowy figures
On the blood-spattered wall
Reverberate malevolent whispers
Into the frigid air.
A pencil-thin beam of light
Pierces through from a ventilation hole
To reveal specks of dust
That whirl around it.

Morbid thoughts
Filter in from beneath the door way
Like thick fumes from a smoke bomb
Bringing with it
The reeking stench of death.

A thousand dead bodies
Tile the gravelly floor,
Each gruesomely murdered
In a perculia way.
On each body is my bloody face
Ravaged and torn, beyond recognition.

To enter this place
Is to walk in my mind
Where l have suffered death
A thousand times.
