It Ends Tonight Poem by Dakota Ellerton

It Ends Tonight

Rating: 4.3

I sit in the backseat.
My head on his lap.
Tears are streaming down my face,
I did not find my closure.
I remember the moon,
shining like the sun through the windows on my face.
I play it over and over again.
I couldn't have been more cruel.
His lips, touched my lips.
Everyone watching us,
as if we were on display.
Two actors in a play.
Why did I come to you,
why did you agree to see me?

All I wanted was your love,
but once I got it,
it wasn't enough to sustain us.
You wrapped your arms around me,
but it made no difference.
My mind was programed to self destruct.
Everytime I hear this song now,
I think of you, of that night.
I asked you some hard questions,
do you remember love?
You didn't answer.
I'm so disappointed in you.
You turned your back on all that you were,
and all hopes of what you'd be.
You've let me down.
When the sun wakes,
and the birds sing,
this will end.
