It Has Been Awhile Now A Few Decades Ago

It has been awhile now a few decades ago
Since I've been to the place where the Araglen flow
Into the Blackwater but the memories remain
When in fancy I visit Duhallow again
By the Shamrock bridge near Cullen in the Parish of Millstreet
The mighty Blackwater and the Araglen meet
Though from that old country I now live far away
Of that beautiful place memories with me do stay
In fancy the fields of Ahane I do see
Where the robin with reddish breast on a birch tree
Is singing his beautiful song of the Spring
The great gift of memory is a marvellous thing
My visualization takes me there to day
To where the rivers do meet in that place far away.
