It Is Hard Work At Best Poem by Mark Heathcote

It Is Hard Work At Best

Love is like holding a live cable
And burning your fingertips, hoping?
The breaker switch does not falsely trip.
It is not easy with the lights on or off.
It is hard work at best. But it is worth the cost.
What's the alternative life alone?

Never -having kids or taking a screaming test.
Sure, there'll be fights; nobody gets to paradise
Without getting knocked off their perch.
But that doesn't mean you've been caged
It only means you've now found
Someone worth living and dying for.
