It Is Midnight Because It Has To Be

For the one who is becoming close

It is midnight
Not before
Not after
It is midnight it has to be
in order for this to work.

I am alone
My ciggarette
smoke
circles slowly
above my head.

A bottle of whiskey
half empty
never half full
stands beside me
The light from my
lamp
flickers
occasional shadows
play hide and seek
on all walls.

The moon is out
it is full
it has to be
it battles for position
with the black clouds

The street is quiet
I hear foxes
picking at black bags
A can clangs against
the cold pavement
and they scarper.

Two candes on my table
flames entertain me
Dancing
My silent sighs excite them
They move in majestic ways.

It is all fictional
of course
but within the imagined
facts can be found

Within these words
There is a little of me
existing
just as there is a dancer
within the red flames.

This is a very interesting poem, it's really been making me think. I especially like the half empty, never half full line, it's intriguing. -Violet

A mystical eerie time of night, when thoughts can stand still and you see things within the flames and within your imagination. Very well put together giving one a sense of immobility. Love Ernestine XXX
