It Is Not Yet Too Late Poem by Francis Duggan

It Is Not Yet Too Late

'Tis said that the Tuvaluan people of Tuvalu of the Pacific seas
Are destined for to become climate change refugees
As the polar ice is melting and sea water levels rise
Millions destined to become homeless that should come as no surprise
Low lying Bangladesh and Holland with huge populations could be underwater in fifty years from now
Yet to the great Goddess of Nature many refuse to bow
For our abuse of our natural environment the future generations must pay
We could have done better that would seem fair to say
Years of burning of fossil fuels and carbon emissions in climate change beginning to tell
In our environmental practices we could have done far better we have not done well
So many low lying Countries and Islands threatened by rising sea levels some tough decades for millions ahead
Yet we have not listened to what the environmental scientists and the experts on climate have said
For years we have been ignoring their warnings and time on us does not wait
But for us to change our ways it is yet not too late.
