It Is Too Hard To Be My True Self Poem by Mohammad Younus

It Is Too Hard To Be My True Self

It is too hard to be my true self,
When I cling to the skin
Of my false self, a veil I wove
In fear, doubt, and fleeting pride.
I cower at the thought—
Can I find the courage
To uncover the truth beneath this facade?
In a world woven with veils of pretense,
It demands a heart, steady, unfaltering,
To strip away illusions, thread by thread.

O false self, I know you well,
Your whisper laced with venom:
'Not enough, never enough—
Have you some more? ' you say.
Not flawless, not charming, not worthy.
Your words, sharp as knives,
Carve wounds in sacred being.
A pain entrenched within,
Your mockery, relentless poison
Seeping into my core—
a shadow clinging close.

When your arrows strike,
The words linger,
Etched into the recesses of my mind—
'O hypocrite, ' they hiss,
'O dreamer, blind and lost.'
Your misguidance leads
To ruin and regret,
A labyrinth of false desires,
Empty victories, hollow truths.

But no more. O false self—
My wisdom flows not from you,
But from the Omniscient One.
My knowledge, my poetry,
Are gifts of the All-Knowing,
The Most Eloquent, the Ever-Giving.
My awakening, my enlightenment,
All arise from the All-Light.
Be ashamed, withdraw your gaze,
And cast no stones.
This is the House of God.

O false self,
Your honey-coated venom,
Your careless bullets—
They target the truth each time.
Your judgments reckless,
Your casualties countless.
You have broken my ancient promise—
to the Divine, of the day of Alast.
Shattered my honor before angels,
And gave them a reason to question—
my honoured position in whole creation.

So I ask you once more:
Pack your things, leave my home.
The space you occupy—
Belongs to the light of my true self,
A radiance unchained, eternal, whole.

The true self rises like the dawn,
Pure and untainted, shining forth.
It bears no chains of pretense.
It speaks the language of the Divine,
Its voice a hymn of love and truth.
The false self crumbles before its gaze,
A shadow of lies fading in the light.

O true self, you are the courage
To face the storm, the wisdom
To walk the path of righteousness.
You are the patience in chaos,
The melody of a soul in harmony.
In your embrace, I find my sanctuary,
A temple of peace unknown to the world.

For you are the essence of divine purpose,
The mirror reflecting the All-Light.
You are the beacon that guides me home,
To a life of truth, of unity, of eternal peace.
In you, I find wholeness, the One, the Unique.
