It Pays To Stay Prepared Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

It Pays To Stay Prepared

A society running rampant,
Of decadence to market it.
And promoted delusions to deceive.
It remains remarkably unbelievable,
How repeated tragedies...
Are revisited on a daily basis.
Bringing people to their knees in grief.

With it to ask themselves,
In public to address.
A distressing confessed unhappiness.
As to why, how and reasons to wonder.
What is it that causes...
People who appear sane.
Could possibly take aim.
To shoot multiple 'others'.
Taking their lives away to face certain death.

And yet...
Most are quick to blame this,
On mental illness.
With psychologists giving,
Their intellectualized opinions.
Although few will admit with truth to present.
That a society running rampant.
Of decadence to market this.
As a declaration of their independence.
And documented rights,
To express their freedoms as they please.
Maybe the cause and conscious reason,
Those who uphold such rules and laws...
Can not face the facts,
Of acts they have allowed to be enacted...
Has resulted to leave them,
Repeatedly on their knees.

Done to inflict,
Upon themselves their own tragedies.
And yet...
Feel better,
If they can lay to place blame...
On another,
Who declares their right...
To cause havoc, sorrow and grief.
For all to eventually accept this B.S.
As someone expressing their patriotism!

Then with this to continue to exist.
Causing their own havoc, division and conflicts.
With a seeking of this to do and choose,
To accuse their dysfunctional way of life...
And threats taught to suspect.
On enemies described day and night,
They should fear.
To protect and defend,
From within proposed fences and walls.
Becoming more crazed on a daily basis.

"Who is the enemy? "

-That's getting more difficult to determine.-

"Why?
And how is that? "

-My neighbors have new friends.
And for whatever the reason,
They have yet to introduced them to me.
Something is going on over there.-

"Is that why you are looking through binoculars.
With all the lights off.
And holding a gun? "

-These days?
It pays to stay prepared.-

"For what? "

-Crazy people! -
