It's Mid-Autumn! Poem by Kwai Chee Low

It's Mid-Autumn!

Below the row of old houses
brightly lit lanterns toss and sway,
their flame wavering in the autumn night.
Children laughing more than in the day,
a full moon smiling lending its light.

Old pa reclines on his rocking chair,
pondering why time has passed him by.
Mooncakes and delicacies for all to share,
steam from an ancient teapot seems to sigh,
as the fragrance of pu-erh fills the air.

Little Bai Yuen stands in front of the shop,
lanterns in all shapes galore but her heart sags.
Pa is still jobless and will be sad.
Tonight she happily clutches her lantern,
made by pa, the first one she ever had.
