It Waits Poem by jordan erickson

It Waits

It hides in the darkness of the night
it waits for you to look away
before it takes flight
and then it is too late.

It waits at the corner of the street
grabbing at childrens feet
it waits in the rain and in the sleet
bearing sharp yellowed teeth

It waits in the park
killing the song of a happy lark
praying on livliness
just like the shark

It sleeps in your bed
under your head
trying to feel your fears
and listening to all that is said

It waits at your desk
for you to make less
to see you cry
to loose your sense

It waits in the crowded hall
for you to fall
to see you hurt
and hear your pained calls

it licks your cold face as you lay in your coffin
it takes your blood from your lips
that you coughed up.
it then takes you to him, waiting for the next soul to reap.
