Jamai Shasthi Again Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Jamai Shasthi Again

The sons-in-law moving to
Fathers-in-law's houses
For a welcome
Seeking blessings from them,
Hoping for a re-orientation
And looking up to God in thankfulness
Which is but a renewal of
Sympathy, bonding and affection.

The in-laws, brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law
Waiting for the arrival of the sister and her husband
To start the ritual and the ceremony,
We mean the festivity,
To do the worship, to seek blessings from the Almighty
And welcome and greet him
With a red paste on the forehead,
Sprinkling of holy water and recitation of mantras
And the offering of food.

Good dishes, delicious plates for him
And he too with sweets and other gifts for them
The fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law
With an affectionate get together
Celebrating the moments
With keeping gods in witness
Seeking blessings from
As for the times passing away with
Memories mellowing and diminishing.
