Jamaican Iguana Poem by Ima Ryma

Jamaican Iguana

In Jamaica there once did roam
The Jamaican iguana who
Did thrive and call the island home.
But threats from the outside did do
Damage and they were thought extinct.
It was in 1990 that
A few of them were found and linked
To their ancestral habitat.
Since that time they have increased some.
But recovery's hard and long.
Conservation work is welcome,
So this species can come back strong.

In Jamaica, help can restore
This native lizard more and more.
