Kamala Das: A Critique Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Kamala Das: A Critique

Kamala Das, the story of her life, her autobiography, how to know it? A Malyali girl from Malabar, she was frank and bold enough and she could not be what they wanted to make her. Things took a different way other than the conventional and homely one. After all, she was a girl, an innocent one, but the course of life wanted it something different for her to choose to, fate too willed it otherwise.

She is a woman writing the story of a woman who has a personal life of own. Her liberty, freedom, our patriarchal society feels it not, her pain and sorrow, her joy and mirth takes to it not. She is not a slave to male's emotions and feelings. She is not for to satisfy hunger. to serve her husband is not her life.

A wrier she is feministic, womanly and open in the treatment of love and sex. She talks of flesh and blood contact, give and take relationship, attraction and repulsion met in love. Modern life and dissatisfaction in love firm the crux of her poetry.

She poses like Radha and Mira, but is not, is like Kunti and Draupadi. Her histrionics, drama of love, her deceit, coquetry, romance and colour, a few have come to understand it what she is in essence. She seems to be a Rajneeshite, a modern disciple with a tulsimala meditating, believing in Sambhoga to samadhi.

She repels against male domination, patriarchal hegemony and in protest and rebellion goes to the extent of questioning the Divine Jurisprudence of gender discrimination, the Divine Scheme of Things.

Her heroine is a girl bride who knows it not the meaning of marriage or nuptial relation, wedding, a girl whore playing with the toys, the eunuch dancing.
