Kara And My Mother Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Kara And My Mother

Kara and my mother

Kara is a poet
Black and American.

She reveals single fact:
"Before, too, was here."

And I read, read, and read
All the way to the fin.

She talks of "Freedom."

Possibly points at
The time of tall Lincoln.

She claims:
"I was told am free."

Clever and alert and smart
Remind us: "But was not."

Wise reader can feel the:
"Am not fool to stop, will go on."

Mother comes to my mind with Kara's:
"I gave birth to free brave child,
Its your wealth, defend and give it all."

Then map of the highs, lows:
"If you find freedom
Detained in prison,
Ignore death and free freedom."

See mother and Kara
Speaking in same tongue,
Both talk of sacrifice,
Resilience, constant fight.

Modulate mother's wave with poet's:
"Freedom is valued, precious,
Stand firm and seek this treasure,
Blow on flicker to its death."
