Kathia Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Kathia

Kathia

"You are a Haitian, "
-I told you and you were surprised
-you stood wondering; barred the dog
- (looked black, ferocious!)
-and it peeked through a gape's slot
-of the door half-opened
-after my caring knock…

My chest is still warm
-feel softness and smell
-yours, fresh, after hug.

And recall how we talked
-his name is Jean Daniel.

My friend
-Haitian
-had escaped my mind
-then.

Yes dear
Yes dear
Yes dear

We broke barriers
-of gender, race, color.

Yes dear
Yes dear
Yes dear

We can be good friends
-kiss and hug
-chat and talk
-of success and failure

Yes dear
Yes dear
Yes dear

We must be and are one.
