Kay Poem by Francis Duggan

Kay

The past is gone forever we cannot bring back the past
And the changes keep on happening and nothing ever last
And the hands of time keep on turning and time's clock keeps ticking on
And the once young getting older and their better days long gone.

Old Kay in her mid seventies a beauty in her day
She uses light brown hair dye to cloak her natural gray
She is not ageing gracefully she combats time's decay
But she is getting frailer her end not far away.

In her prime years in the fifties she possessed beauty rare
Tall feminine and attractive with brown eyes and brown hair
And though she never married or bore children she had men in her life
She had many marriage proposals though she never did become a wife.

She never loved any one man strong enough to commit to him in such a way
And she grew old childless and single and single she will stay
Until the Reaper claims her whenever that will be
The Reaper who claim all living kind who one day will claim me

In the nineteen fifties and the sixties she was in her glorious prime
And though she is quite determined not to bow to father time
She now walks with a cane's assistance and her beauty in decay
And time does not wait for anyone and it did not wait for Kay.
