Keeping My Part Of The Bargin Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Keeping My Part Of The Bargin

Your grave smile
as ever
smiling back
at me now
from the grave
you never wanted
wanting only
to be ashes
scattered over
your beloved moor
but I couldn’t go
against family wishes

& so
now I take a stone
only one
from your grave surroundings
and place it
where you wanted to be
telling your soul:
“Go now…wander free! ”
