Kids & Cameras Poem by Linda Racaniello

Kids & Cameras

I met a women online
Her husband is in Iraq
Her children want him home
Please send him back

One night her kids took pictures
They are five and four
They did this by themselves
To send to their Daddie on a foreign shore

She’s just so proud of her kids
all she could do was weep
When she realized what they had done
When she was fast asleep

The summer heat is bearing down
and the hats don’t do a thing
Then the blinding wind cuts across
bringing pebbles of sand and things

Some soldiers sleep standing up
Some with just one eye peeled
Some have no shelter and no water
Out there in the field

I pray for those families
With soldiers in Iraq
I pray for those not coming home
And the one’s who are coming back

My friends husband is soldier
So she and her boys
Stand up for right and wrong
Though sometimes there’s little joy

This women I would call a friend
I care for her family and her man
He believes this is a fight for freedom
And he’s doing all he can
