Kiln Fired Clay Glazed Vessels Poem by Terence George Craddock

Kiln Fired Clay Glazed Vessels

the potter hand casts
clay upon spinning wheel
rising up sought forms

clay body paste fabric clay matrix

earthenware stoneware porcelain
neolithic earthenware hand formed
low temperatures pit-fires bonfires

origins unglazed porous evolves ceramic glaze impermeable

stoneware 1,100 °C to 1,200 °C kiln fired
a thermally insulated chamber produces
temperatures sufficient to complete process

hardening drying chemical changes innovative kiln designs

porcelain prestige fired at high temperatures
1,200 1,400 °C attains strength translucence
kaolinitic clay achieves translucency whiteness

prehistoric pottery vessels sculpted figurines

clay kneading shaping drying firing
decorating painting carving glazing
artistic choice artist culture specific

artistic choice changes everything

painting music dance literature cooking gaming
in human heart soul kaleidoscopic possibilities
a vast infinite sea of surface depth possibilities

clay is pliable flexing substrate body cast spirit pottery souls
