Kinder, Nicer, Benign & Better Poem by Suchi Banerjee

Kinder, Nicer, Benign & Better

If only the world was kinder!
Kinder, nicer, benign and better.
Not yolked and strained under religious tether
It can be, it can be, it can be so much better.
If only if only the mighty Zeb knew better.

Zeb is strong, a benevolent deity,
He is kind, only kind to his laity.

Allah, Shiva is but one,
Zeb must know that,
Know that we all are one.
One world, one nation, same aspirations,
One heart, one dream-
Of the freedom of devotion.

Yes, I can see it,
See prayer rooms open to all,
Yes, Zeb is repairing our temples,
Our temples won't fall.
Celebrations, festivities open for all
A royal affair it is,
Invitations to all.
Dar ul Hab, never Dar Ul Islam,
Wahe Guru ki jai,
Allah Hu Akbar, Jai Ram.
Taxes taxes-
No double trouble, no harm.
All for the country,
The country for us all.

No protest, no punishment, no pawn
No beating, no brutality, a brand new dawn
Mathura, Bodh Gaya is summoning us all
Let's go let's go, the mighty Lord has called
Jiziya, muhtasahibs, them nasty words,
Nasty words for all,
Babu, kaka, Ma aur mein,
The king belongs to us all!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a follow up piece to my poem, 'God Won't Hear.' It talks about what the tyrant Auranzeb's rule could have been like.
