Know, The Straight Path Poem by Mohammad Younus

Know, The Straight Path

Know, the straight path
passes through the heart,
dark and shadowed,
where shadows twist
like ghosts of illusion,
and the light flickers—
uncertain,
a fragile flame.
But here, the gracious
God, in the deep silence,
asks me to search for meaning,
by a voice soft as dawn
breaking over hills,
that we are made
in the image of God.

Though in the frame
of molded clay,
we are of God's spirit
born.
We must not dwell
in the glitter of our pride,
but in the quiet dignity
of our essential being.
And thus, I understood:
We are fragile and divine,
a paradox, like the wind
that bends the bough
but never breaks it.

And so, I walk.
The trees whisper their secrets,
and the stream hums a hymn
that feels older than Time itself.
They know of Him—
the one who begets not,
and nor is He begotten.
They know of His messenger,
the Great One, who came to guide
humankind with the Book
in His sacred hands,
full with wisdom, ready to heal
the wounded souls,
and a heart vast enough
to hold all the world
in His Love's embrace.

He was not more than a man,
but He was also no less.
His breath was the breath of God,
resonating with the rhythm of truth,
the cadence of love,
the pulse of compassion.
He walked among us,
not apart from us.
He wept for our salvation,
prayed for our enlightenment.
In Him, the divine manifested
the light that never faltered.

By the stream of this prophet,
I stop.
Its waters are clear and cold—
The Water of Life!
In the clear surface of this stream,
I see my reflection—imperfect,
fractured by the ripples.
It is not who I truly am;
my divine Image is distorted
by my own restless motion.
And yet, the essence remains.

To love, to forgive—prophet's mission,
to gather the broken pieces
of humankind,
and hold them tenderly,
whispering, 'You are sacred.
Take ablutions in my stream.'
This is what He showed us,
In grand sermons and proclamations,
And more through His best example:
the way He carried the weight
of prophetic mission,
in the face of betrayal.
An example unmatched
in humankind's history,
and still, He called us His own Ummah
and prayed to God for our guidance.
