Tere aur mere beech
koi awaaz nahin aati, paunch nahin paati
jaisay ye paani k andar chal rahi ho
ya bijli k switch ki tarah
kabhi on kabhi off ho rahi ho
lagta hai hum dono
ek mulk hain jis main
dushman apna udda lagaey betha hai
hum yahan rehtay hain aur rehtay bhi nahin
chup chap hain, andhera aisa hai
k jab roshni aati hai
hum bhool chukay hotay hain
kya kehna tha tum ne mujh ko
kya kehna tha main ne tum ko

Tra noi la voce non
conduce e arriva, come
phon dentro l'acqua,
ma si ferma come
d'interruttore,
acceso o spento
a casaccio. Noi due
siamo un paese
sotto embargo,
che vive di parentesi e
silenzi, di blackout,
sì che quando la luce poi
ritorna, noi ci si è già
dimenticati cosa dire.

The voice does not connect, does not
reach all the way between us
like a phon in water
instead it stops like a
circuit breaker
flipped on or off
at random. The two of us
are a country
under embargo,
living on parentheses and
silences, on blackouts,
so that when the lights finally
come on again, we have already
forgotten what to say to each other.
