POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Typical of Cummings' style, there are no capital letters, no punctuation-which is similar to W.S. Merwin's writing. Cummings is much the more radical of the two.
He presents love as a place through which move 'all places'. I think that this means that love (and peace) are essential to a place, all places.
'Yes' is a world of its own, and all worlds live in the world of 'yes'. This shows great insight, as all progress, all inventions, the tallest buildings depend on a man or men saying 'yes' to undertaking the project. If you keep saying 'no' then things will just stay the same.
One lecturer once told me, 'Make sure your yes is yes and your no is no', advice I agree with.
E. E. Cummings is the most individualist of poets in his syntax, portmanteau words, joining three or four words together, no capitals and no punctuation. Each reader has to decide for himself about these linguistic features.
