L'an De Cent Changements.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

L'an De Cent Changements.(Translation) .

Toujours disant au revoir, ou bonne nuit;
jamais tout a fait
avec nous, jamais tout a fait parti;

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A person is always saying goodbye but never quite leaving. It is easier to seem to be leaving, so you can sit in a deckchair on the Lido and see the century out. The new millennium when 1999 became 2000. You can pack and unpack your bags and ignore warnings that the plague is arriving, everything is fading, the boy has rotten teeth,
the park is dead. No matter, you will look back blindly ' and make it beautiful'.
The Lido is the main swimming pool in Palmerston North. I used to swim there often.
