L'instant De Notre Separation.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

L'instant De Notre Separation.(Translation) .

Je dis: Je ne peux te dire
combien je ne crois pas
en toi
a l'instant que nous nous separons.

Je dis: Je vecus en limbo
cet ete entier
en me demandant si ton amour pour moi
survivrait a ton vol
chez toi.

Je dis: Je vais mieux maintenant
qu'a l'instant ou nous nous separons
l'instant de notre adieu
est avec moi pour toujours.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a sombre love poem about parting with her lover, separating.
She had lost belief in him when they parted: she lived in lim

bo a whole summer, wondering if their love would survive his flight home. She concludes that she is better off now that they have parted, although she will keep the memory of it always.
I am taken by the repetition of 'I said' at the start of each stanza (quatrain) . The image of 'I lived in limbo' is striking and exact. A compelling poem of lost love.
