On n'a aucune idee
comment des peintures a l'huile pervertissent
une culture entiere
Goldie, maintenant, de ces pipes et ces cigarettes
aux levres de 'tipuna'
on devrait dechirer tous ses enduits
de son cadre
enroules et allumes

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Charles Goldie was a well known New Zealand oils painter, whom I mentioned in 'Tattoo You'. Goldie painted almost exclusively old Maori women ('tipuna') , who smoked pipes and fags and had facial tattoos. Gadd thinks that Goldie should have his paintings torn down and burned as they give a false idea of New Zealand culture. I agree with Bernard Gadd.
