La Plage Kadoorie, Tuen Mun Poem by Michael Walker

La Plage Kadoorie, Tuen Mun

aujourd'hui on dit qu'il est
lundi
et
si nous croyons
le poile
mouvant et gris
qui occlut tout,
c'est vrai.

les vagues juvenescentes,
sont
aussi peu disposees
que les silhouettes
des avions
en glissant a travers
les cieux narquois,
pour reveler
leurs vraies intentions.

deux-ou est-ce trois-
vieux nageurs
fusionnent
ce fond esquisse;

la seule
distribution theatrale & l'equipe
de l'aporia tenebreux

qu'on ne questionne jamais

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Kadoorie Beach is near the town of Tuen Mun in the eastern part of Hong Kong, China. The poem is written in open form (no capital letters, minimal punctuation, and varied indentation from the left margin. Open form is freer than free verse and many poets write in this form nowadays. But open form is only one form among many, and the style would by no means suit everyone.
The poet gives a picture of Kadoorie Beach on a murky Monday, when aircraft are taking off or landing, and a couple of elderly bathers are chancing the waves. No one ever questions this Monday monotony. A beach on a Monday morning is unlikely to be crowded or lively.
