Labor Day Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Labor Day

It signals when school begins
This is the last vacation day
For many young children
it is the finale of play…Labor Day

Concluding with splashing in the pool
and enjoying a family barbecue
The hours of the day have gotten shorter
as happy free spirited children grew

The kids have brand new clothes
and shiny, clean, unscuffed shoes
Metal lunchboxes with handles have
bold designs distinguishing who’s whose

Parents anticipate the first day back eagerly
Finally they can rest and put up their feet
As their children become learned students
Listening attentively in their assigned seats
